Headquartered in Ancient Olympia, Peloponnese, the Ephorate of Antiquities of Ilia (Ef.A.Ilias) recommends a regional Bureau (Institution) of the Hellenic Ministry of Culture and Sport. Scientific research, excavation, safe guarding and presentation of the rich cultural heritage of Olympia and the wider region of Ilia, and its exhibition to the museums domestically and abroad, constitute the most important objectives and duties of the Ephorate of Antiquities of Ilia. Moreover, the Ephorate is responsible for the planning, management and execution of any archaeological work regarding the conservation, rehabilitation, restoration and enhancement of monuments dating from the prehistoric period up to the establishment of the Greek state (1830).
